Course Description: Course Title: Kentucky Clearview Rapid HIV Test Training – Web-Based Training 1052459

Course Duration: This course will take 1.5 hours to complete.

Course Description:
This course provides step-by-step instructions on performing HIV testing with the Clearview COMPLETE Rapid HIV 1/2 Antibody Test; when and how to run Clearview controls; and how to provide rapid HIV test results within the context of CDC's six-step HIV prevention counseling protocol.  The course includes an online video and requires that you successfully run a set of Clearview controls in the presence of a rapid test trainer (nurse supervisors with experience in the use of Clearview COMPLETE Rapid HIV 1/2 Antibody Test).

The video for this course includes a review of how to give rapid test results, both negative and positive.

The assessment for this course includes questions relating to the demonstrations of giving rapid HIV test results, so be sure to watch the video closely.

YOU CANNOT COMPLETE THIS COURSE WITHOUT A RAPID HIV TEST TRAINER BEING PRESENT WHILE YOU RUN CONTROLS.  In most cases, this trainer will be your Nurse Leader.

Completion of this course only prepares you to use the Clearview COMPLETE Rapid HIV 1/2 Antibody Test.  This course does not qualify you to be an HIV tester.  To become an HIV tester, you must successfully complete a “Fundamentals of HIV Prevention Counseling” workshop and the related prerequisites.

Course Objectives:

By the end of this training, you will be able to:
  • Demonstrate the steps to perform kit controls for Clearview
  • Demonstrate how to accurately interpret Clearview results
  • Articulate when it is appropriate to run controls for Clearview
  • Utilize knowledge, skills, and practices essential to effective HIV prevention counseling within the context of giving results from rapid testing.
  • Discuss how to incorporate rapid testing into the six-step HIV prevention counseling protocol
  • Identify the differences and similarities between using the six-step HIV prevention counseling protocol in sessions with conventional and rapid test clients

There have been several advancements in HIV since this video was made. Perhaps a newer version would be beneficial to our clients.
